Paleobiologist Kenshu Shimada of DePaul University in Chicago along with colleagues conducted a study by analyzing the shapes and sizes of ancient shark teeth, to estimate body sizes of the fish.
Sharks develop differently than other fish as their eggs hatch within the mother’s womb. The study suggests, the first shark pup to hatch inside the mother may have eaten the rest of the eggs, a type of cannibalism. That pup would end up being larger and perhaps more capable.
